Your baby may be strong enough to do a mini push-up when he's lying on
his tummy now. As his muscles strengthen he will be able to lift his head and
shoulders clear of the floor. He may also look around as he does so. You can
encourage him by lying him on his tummy on a play mat for short periods each
day. Gradually he will learn to transfer his weight from his forearms to his
hands to lift himself even higher. Do remember, though, that this head-up
position is tiring. He won't be able to hold it for very long at first, no
matter how much he wants to see what's going on around him.
